The curtain is rising on another incredible year, and we’re excited to officially announce the 2026–2027 Rustburg High School Theatre Season.
This year’s productions explore mysteries waiting to be solved, voices waiting to be heard, and worlds where imagination has the power to change everything. From edge-of-your-seat suspense to powerful contemporary drama and a Broadway musical filled with heart, this season will challenge, inspire, and entertain both our performers and audiences.
A luxury train. A snowstorm. A murder. Every passenger has something to hide.
You may not recognize the name Agatha Christie, but you’ve almost certainly experienced the stories she inspired. As one of history’s most celebrated mystery writers, Christie mastered the art of keeping audiences guessing until the very last moment. Murder on the Orient Express is one of her greatest works—a thrilling whodunit filled with unforgettable characters, clever twists, sharp humor, and nonstop suspense.
When the world’s greatest detective, Hercule Poirot, finds himself trapped aboard the famed Orient Express after a shocking crime, every passenger becomes a suspect. As secrets begin to unravel, nothing is quite as it seems, and every new clue raises even more questions.
Whether you’re drawn to dramatic characters, witty dialogue, or the challenge of bringing a classic mystery to life, this promises to be an unforgettable production.

Not every story is easy to tell—but some stories demand to be heard.
This year’s VHSL One-Act Competition piece, Silenced on Barbour Street, is a compelling contemporary drama that explores truth, courage, and the consequences of remaining silent. Through powerful storytelling and emotionally complex characters, the play asks difficult questions about community, justice, and what happens when ordinary people are faced with extraordinary choices.
Developed and performed by our Advanced Acting class, this production represents some of our most challenging theatrical work of the season. We look forward to sharing this powerful story as we compete in the VHSL Theatre competition.
At first glance, Seussical may sound like a show made only for children. In reality, it’s one of Broadway’s most heartfelt celebrations of friendship, courage, loyalty, and believing in those whose voices are too often overlooked.
Based on the beloved stories of Dr. Seuss, Seussical weaves together iconic characters including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, the Cat in the Hat, JoJo, and many more into one unforgettable adventure that reminds us, above all, that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”
The musical features a Tony Award-nominated score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the acclaimed Broadway team behind Ragtime and Once on This Island. Their music blends soaring ballads, energetic ensemble numbers, and emotional storytelling to create a production that has become a favorite for schools and professional theatres alike—not because it’s simple, but because its message resonates with audiences of every age.
We’re especially excited to announce that auditions for Seussical will be open not only to Rustburg High School students, but also to Rustburg Middle School eighth graders, giving younger performers the opportunity to join us on stage for this exciting production.
