Jeff Mayfield Fine Art Welcome, I am Jeff Mayfield, a Fine Art Photographer and Mixed Media Artist. www.jeffmayfieldart.com Hi, welcome to my website. Where do I focus my energies?

MY CREATIVE FOCUS RESULTS in professional color or black and white photographs, fine art photographs, and mixed media paintings. I am so honored and excited you are here. I am Jeff Mayfield, a Fine Art Photographer and Mixed Media Artist. For years, I have had mixed feelings about my identity as an artist. I love photography and I love to paint. I had such a conflict. One day while I was in anguis

h over this conflict, an artist friend finally asked me, “why do you have to choose, why not combine them both”? What a revelation and a relief! Seems simple right, I am eternally grateful for that comment. It changed the whole trajectory of my artwork. This comment sent me on an extensive journey to find creative and effective methods to combine my passions for both photography and painting. I am excited to share my adventure of creating art for special moments and memories, special places, portraits and vintage portraits with you. I am so glad you are here. Jeff Mayfield

ARTIST STATEMENT
"Art communicates feelings and ideas through various mediums. My work uses visual media to express individual and emotional messages through the treatment and transformation of scenes from life." WHY DO I USE MULTIPLE MEDIUMS? The thrill of taking a breathtaking and meaningful photograph will always be my passion. The stories they tell drive me each day. Combining multiple photographs into a single work of art is another creative opportunity with my fine art photography. However, sometimes the image I see in the creative moment screams out for the combination of several mediums. It is so much fun to combine the strengths of each medium and accomplish new perspectives. Painting and photography have influenced my life since childhood. Working in multiple mediums has become a focus for me. I love utilizing the strengths of each medium and combining them to produce a unique and creative piece of artwork. While life diverted my attention from these passions, I now am at a point in my life where I can pursue them more fully. For the past several years, I have been experimenting with different combinations of painting and photography. I have explored new mediums and techniques to discover which ones complement each other. I now use this knowledge to balance the strengths of different mediums and to accentuate the primary focus of each piece of art. My goal is to create unique pieces of art that reflect and illuminate a story or message through photographs, composite photographs, and paintings. HOW DO I CREATE MY FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHS? MY FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHS are often multiple photographs distinctly developed with a unique focus to combine these separately exposed negatives into a single artistic photographic image. This is done by digitally layering the images or stacking each image in layers one on top of another. Each digitally stacked-layer contains certain key elements required to reveal a unique single photograph with its unique message. Some photographs contain layers that are created through the painting process utilizing watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, and other mediums. The painting is photographed and the digital negative is blended with the other photographic negatives to create a unique and creative composition. HOW DO I CREATE THE MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS? Drawings are created from the combination of graphite, pen, and ink, and from one or more photographs on archival quality fiber paper. The painting process involves the use of pen and ink, watercolor, pastels, and other mediums. The painting is created in layers and when completed is sealed with an archival permanent fixative consistent with classical pastel paintings. See the links below to learn more about the process, equipment, supplies, and substrates. If you have, further questions about my artwork I would love to answer them for you. I can also provide more information on my techniques, limited edition prints and their 200-year durability, the substrates options available and the dimension options to meet your unique artistic desires. While on my way to Taos, New Mexico this majestic sunset presented itself for my viewing. I stopped and quickly photographed this beautiful experience. I was so taken by this adventure and the wonder about what was over the horizon that Taos had to wait for another day.

Visiting a historical early American settlement I came across wagon wheels hung on the side of a barn. I wondered what life was like to travel by horse and wagon.

“A Walk Through History” Series
The opportunity to visit and experience historical sites in this great nation is such a privilege. The contrast between our lives and the life experienced by our ancestors is often dramatic and surprising. Reflecting on their beliefs. decisions, successes and failures provides invaluable opportunities for us to learn and benefit from their hard earned lessons. This series contrast the past with the present and I hope encourages reflection and learning to apply in our personal lives.

History Comes Alive at Monticello” “A Reflection on History” Mixed Media Painting
18”x24” Framed

Visiting a historical American home of Thomas Jefferson during a re-enactment festival was a great privilege. The contrast between the present and the past was very striking and thought provoking. As I watched the visitors through the trees as the re-enactment was in progress, this painted emerged.
