"A Christmas Story" on Stage at 49 Franklin

Step into 49 Franklin’s Mystic Theater in Rumford for their winter production of “A Christmas Story” and you will be transported to the early 1940’s where Ralphie Parker’s greatest wish is to own a Red Rider BB Gun, only to be lectured by everyone including Santa that he’ll shoot his eye out.

“A Christmas Story” was written by Jean Shepherd inspired by “In God We Trust; All Others Pay Cash” which was based on a collection of short stories he wrote for “Playboy” magazine between 1964 and 1966. All the classic scene’s from the short stories and the 1983 movie are in the live production adapted by Phillip Grecian, including the tongue sticking to the flagpole, the pink bunny pj’s, the neighbors dogs harassing the Old Man and getting the turkey, his dealings with the furnace, the leg lamp and other iconic scenes. It’s become a holiday classic and many people’s favorite Christmas story of all time. Leonard Maltin called the story “Warmly nostalgic, and darkly humorous, delightful, and truly funny for kids and grownups alike with a wonderful period flavor.” The story inspired the creation of “The Wonder Years” with it’s unique narrative style.

A CHRISTMAS STORY....AUDITIONS

49 Franklin and Paper Moon Players announce auditions for their upcoming holiday production: A Christmas Story by Philip Grecian. Based on the motion picture and the book, In God We Trust, All others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.

The Christmas spirit isn't served up with more heartfelt warmth or observant hilarity then in humorist Jean Shepherd's classic holiday story.
In 1940s Indiana, 9 year old Ralphie Parker dreams of his ideal Christmas gift: a genuine Red Ryder 200 shot Carbine Action Air Rifle. But when gruff dad and doting mom regularly respond with "You'll shoot your eye out!" Ralphie mounts a full scale, hint dropping, Santa begging campaign.
All the elements of the beloved film are presented in this joyous celebration of childhood.
