An engineer by profession, I began working in art during elementary school and junior high. I was lucky to grow up in an era and an area when art education for youth was valued. During this time I worked in ceramics, silkscreen, photography, acrylic painting, jewelry making, and woodwork. Upon entering high school the need to develop a profession via education overwhelmed the desire to create in a

rt and I pursued Engineering. Later in life, a journey to rediscover my spiritual life led me back into the arts. Around age 46, I began taking life drawing classes at the Houston Art League. After a couple of semesters working at the Art League, I found I wanted a more serious education to improve my drawing skills. I moved to The Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. At Glassell, I have studied drawing, 2D and 3D design, life drawing, watercolor, and digital photography. My most recent watercolor paintings have looked at the effects of light in real images and the impact of diffraction and refraction on the lines and colors of the images. My work also includes exploration of the outdoors including landscapes, scenes on duck ponds, and hunting activities. I strive for some degree of realism in my representational works. I do need to abstract some parts of the image to help in creating and altering the mood. Otherwise, you might as well have the photo print.
