Congrats to this artist and her Barbette art winning at the State Fair of Texas ! Fun fact: There's an
amazing Round Rock connection here. Who integrated the State Fair of Texas and is honored by a scholarship in her name? Juanita Craft, born in Round Rock, TX! Barbette was born in Round Rock in 1899, and in 1902, future Civil Rights leader Juanita Craft is born here too! Wjat incredibly important local legends!

How fun is this?! Our Barbette’s Legacy Foundation logo made it all the way to the State Fair of Texas and took home a FIRST PLACE blue ribbon! 🥇

Our friend Tiffany Blankenship created this beautiful counted cross-stitch using our foundation logo, originally designed by our talented friend Lisa.

Barbette in the news!

Barbette was a world-famous drag performer and aerial circus artist in the 1920s. She was the toast of Paris, friends with fashion icon Coco Chanel and French poet Jean Cocteau’s lover. But she was virtually unknown in Texas.

Born 126 years ago, the world famous Barbette is not only a Round Rock Legend, but also the earliest known member of our local arts community.

This aerialist, choreographer, and cultural icon from Round Rock will be celebrated with an historic marker dedication this Thursday at the Round Rock Cemetery.
