It’s “Wear Orange” weekend. 🍊
I would like to help amplify the voices of advocates demanding an end to senseless gun violence.
Apparently the color orange was chosen because it represents the “loud” color hunters wear to protect themselves and others, symbolizing safety and awareness. This weekend is recognized with events around the country as a time for honoring victims and survivors and building community.
Join me at Austin’s Family Fun Run at Girard Kinney Park in Mueller Sat 6/6 where my art will play a small part. Together let’s work to create the kind of world we know in our hearts is possible. 🧡

I learned that Mother’s Day in America started not as a holiday but as “a cry for peace, care for others, and a reclamation of self care.” In the 1800s Ann Jarvis and Julia Ward Howe made an influential impact; their histories are extremely interesting to read about. They shared the belief that women- especially mothers- were best suited to bring people together with the goal of peace.
In support of activism such as theirs, my art therapy of late has been creating emblematic amplifiers, questioning who and what gets amplified and heard and why.
ORANGE is a color that represents energy, optimism, and warmth which seems fitting for Mother’s Day. It is also the color chosen by community-builders and more on this to come…

My wish for Mother’s Day would be for ALL kids to feel safe, supported and loved. And I’d like to amplify and express gratitude for ALL those working towards that. 🧡
