Roslyn Fire and local partners will once again be conducting prescribed burn operations in the Roslyn Urban Forest and on the ridge above on Sunday October 3rd and throughout next week if conditions and smoke dispersion forecasts allow. These burns are part of the TREX program that has burned here annually since 2017.
The unit planned for Sunday is very close to homes and fire will be brough down to the Alaska Avenue alley. Smoke and flames will be visible from town with lingering visible flames into the night. There are likely to be significant smoke impacts in town especially in the early morning hours for several days after the burn.
The burn will be staffed by firefighters from Roslyn Fire, Kittitas County Fire Protection District #6, Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue- KVFR, Cle Elum Volunteer Fire Department, Kittitas County Fire District 1, Kittitas County Fire District Number 7, Snoqualmie Pass Fire & Rescue and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and additional out of county resources.
Sunday's planned burn is part of an on-going project to protect the communities of Ronald, Roslyn, Cle Elum, South Cle Elum, and Suncadia from catastrophic fire. Funding comes from the The City of Roslyn, Roslyn Downtown Association, Suncadia Resort, the US Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy in Washington: Central Cascades Forest, and the Washington DNR.
Please note that if burning proceeds a recreational closure will be in place.
