🌸 Remembering Dolly Parton | 1946–2026 🌸

Today, we join so many around the world in remembering the incomparable Dolly Parton — an artist whose extraordinary gifts reached far beyond the music that made her a legend.

As theatre artists, we are especially remembering one of her most beloved film roles: Truvy Jones in the 1989 film "Steel Magnolias". As the warm, witty and welcoming owner of Truvy’s beauty salon, Dolly brought her unmistakable humor, heart and spirit to a character who reminds us of the importance of friendship, laughter and finding strength in one another.

This is especially poignant for the Philip Lynch Theatre as we reflect on her passing. Our third production of the 2026–27 season will be Robert Harling’s stage play, Steel Magnolias.

And yes — Truvy is there. 🌸

Long before the story reached the screen, Truvy and the women who gather in her salon lived on the stage. This February, a new actress will step into Truvy’s salon at the Philip Lynch Theatre and bring this wonderful character to life for another audience.

That is one of the beautiful things about theatre.

The curtain may fall, but the work lives on.

Through music, film, storytelling and the countless lives she touched, Dolly Parton leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. As we prepare to tell this story on our stage, there will now be something a little more meaningful about welcoming audiences into Truvy’s salon.

Rest well, Dolly. 🌸

Your music will continue to play.
Your stories will continue to be told.
And your light will continue to find its way onto stages everywhere.

IT’S AUDITION TIME! 🎭

The Philip Lynch Theatre is excited to begin our 2026–27 season, and auditions for our FIRST production of the year are coming up!

🎭 AUDITIONS

Thursday, August 27th

Philip Lynch Theatre

We are excited to welcome Guest Director Brian Fruits-Esparza, who will be joining us to direct our first production of the season!

And remember — you do NOT have to be a Theatre major or minor to audition!

Auditions are open to ALL Lewis University students, including majors, minors, and non-majors. If you have ever thought about getting involved in a PLT production, this is your opportunity!

Come to the Picnic & Stay for Auditions!

Our Theatre Welcome Picnic will be held just before auditions from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on the back patio of the Oremus Fine Arts Building.

Come eat, meet members of the PLT family, get to know some new people, and then head inside to the theatre for auditions at 6:00 p.m.!

New to theatre? That’s okay!
Never auditioned before? That’s okay too!

We encourage anyone interested in performing and becoming part of the Philip Lynch Theatre community to come out and give it a try.

The Philip Lynch Theatre is excited to kick off another wonderful year, and we invite you to join us for our Theatre Welcome Picnic!

Thursday, August 27th
4:00–6:00 p.m.
**Back Patio – Oremus Fine Arts Building **(if it rains, we will move inside to the lobby)

This picnic is for EVERYONE!

Whether you are a Theatre major, minor, non-major, faculty or staff member, or simply someone who has an interest in getting involved with theatre at Lewis — YOU ARE INVITED!

Thinking about auditioning for a show? Interested in working backstage, costumes, lights, sound, scenery, box office, or just want to learn more about what happens at the Philip Lynch Theatre (PLT)? Come join us!

And bring a friend! They do not have to be a Theatre major or minor. Anyone interested in becoming involved with the theatre is welcome to attend.

Come grab a bite to eat, reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people, and learn more about the many ways you can be part of the PLT community during the 2026–27 season.

This is a casual gathering, so stop by anytime between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.

It's not often I post about shows but this time felt special to me. Last night was filled with an amazing audience! Who gave raving reviews of our production of Drive In by Richard Hellesen! Through belly laughing and genuine moments of young love that hit our feelings. We ended the performance with thunderous aplause for our actors and crew! Don't miss your chance to see drive in at 7:30pm tonight and 2:30pm Saturday and Sunday!
