Romeo Theatre Company had a STELLAR evening at the Sutton Foster Awards last night! Certain schools are recognized during the Technical Theatre Awards portion of the program as having outstanding Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Costume Design, Choreography, Music Direction, and Direction in their musical. I am proud to announce that Romeo was recognized for ALL SIX categories for our production of Anything Goes this spring!
Even more good news, Sawyer Lackowski was selected as the male recipient of the Spirit of Sutton Foster Award for his work ethic and attitude during the workshop weeks for the awards. He won a full-ride scholarship to a Broadway Intensive workshop week at the Wharton Center this summer!
And finally, Tierney Tocco was a Sutton Foster Awards FINALIST!! Four female finalists and four male finalists were announced during the show, and within minutes (and no warm-up), they had to sing a solo in front of a sold out house of 2,500 audience members. Tierney sang beautifully, and you could hear a pin drop during her solo. Though she was not chosen to be Michigan's representative at the Jimmy Awards in NYC, she walked away with a $1000 scholarship to her musical theatre program. To be a finalist in this ceremony is one of the highest honors!
Out of the 78 participating schools, Romeo was recognized consistently throughout the night, and we could not be more proud of the students who made it happen!
