One question I get a lot when people find out I do pottery is “do you have a kiln?” I always say, yes I have three 🔥🔥🔥. My main kiln is my Olympic that I converted from manual to computerized several years ago. It has 3 inch thick brick making for very even firings top to bottom. I usually do all the work on it myself or with friends and really love and trust this kiln. Fun fact: I bought her second hand from a student who was moving out of her home into an RV.

The baby kiln I won in a contest where I submitted a kiln rap performance video 🙈. It is amazing for quickly getting small projects and samples done so I can have them for a class or special student in no time. And the last picture is of a raku kiln I made with in like 2019. It does a special firing process where the pots come out at peak temperature and go through a rapid cooling process. I don’t fire this one as often but when I do, it’s a lot of hot fun.

It’s been a season or two since a pottery sale… babies and teaching and home ownership… it’s an intentional effort to create a body of work. BUT… I am using this new season of life to create in the quiet moments between school drop off and pick up. I’ll be making an announcement soon with details for an online sale in the next week. These pieces and more will be polished and ready for their new homes!

My students in grades 4-8 took on learning how to draw in one point perspective. They had a blast giving their little cities all the details and colors while impressing themselves with the 3-D effects. I’m so excited with how they turned out! Fun project and super successful for the first time teaching this project 🎉🎨👩🏼‍🎨
