Art from “white mud”
As a ceramic artist who choses to work exclusively with porcelain I want to teach others that the red/orange mud may be found in your Missouri back-yard is not the same as the clay I use. Yes, during the process of making on the wheel you may experience slip covered hands that looks like white mud but it is far from it. Porcelain is made of very small particles that are held together by the surface tension of the water in the clay as well as the platelets of the clay itself. Too much water used when forming on the wheel and the clay will collapse on itself and you’ll need to re-wedge it so it can be used again at a later date.
As a juried member of the Best of Missouri Hands art guild, my work has been recognized as being of quality craftsmanship and artistic value. I strive to maintain this whether I’m teaching classes, exhibiting my art, or making custom pieces.
