🎨🧫 Agar Art is coming to Space on Pine! 🧫🎨

What happens when science gets creative? You get agar art – and you’re invited to try it.

Noon–4 p.m. Saturday, April 18th Community members, age 10 and older, are invited to Space on Pine to create agar art with Dr. Dave Westenberg, Curator’s Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences at Missouri S&T. Agar art uses agar – a jelly-like substance used in biology labs and as a food in some parts of the world – along with colorful, non‑disease‑causing bacteria to create designs that grow, change and come to life over time. (The bacteria are made colorful by adding an extra gene.) No science background required – just curiosity and imagination. Supplies are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis, while they last.

6–8 p.m. Friday, April 24th Come back for the Agar Art Show, featuring the finished pieces from the workshop, along with striking prints of bacteria and other microscopic art.

Dr. Westenberg is known for making microbiology accessible, visual and fun, and this event celebrates the unexpected beauty of the unseen world.

Whether you love art, science or just want to try something a little different, this is a chance to create art that truly grows on you.
