I am going to go ahead and address this on my page before the other party publicly “blasts” me
I have been tattooing independently for 3 years now, 3.5 including my apprenticeship. I have made MANY mistakes along the way and I have learned many things. I have overdone raffles, I have forgotten to respond to people, I have even had to fix a tattoo or two. But I always try to make it right if I can. If I have to cancel and a client can’t reschedule, I will refund , I will try my best to get them back on the books asap if they can reschedule, and LORD KNOWS I am known to reschedule due to my kids, family work dynamic, and my chronic migraines. I will be the first to call myself out regarding these things. I have never owned a business and I take every mistake as a learning option.
However, I messed up with a prior client and I let her slip through the cracks BADLY. I booked this client for a sleeve deal a year ago, paid up front, because I needed money and I offered to finish their sleeve for a fraction of the price. Which I will never do again after this situation. We got two decent sized sessions done, two good chunks of her arm and she was very happy with the outcome of those tattoos. I believe she had to cancel due to an injury and I had to reschedule a few times due to my kids and my husband finding new work and figuring out his new work schedule. Honestly, I messed up badly and kept forgetting to respond to her once my life got chaotic due to (I’m you be brutally honestly here) my husband getting in a bad motor accident, me being the only breadwinner while he was on the mend, him losing his job, and ultimately going through a several months long forclosure of our family home.
Let me repeat. I MESSED UP. I LET THIS CLIENT SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS AND GOT FURTHER AND FURTHER BEHIND WITH BOOKING THEM.
Fast forward, this client reaches out to the owner of the shop I work out and posts about me on a status of hers. This immediately snaps my brain back to “oh sh*t” mode and I remember I HAVE to get this person back on my books. I message the client and offer to get them in that evening or basically whenever they wanted so we could just get it done like it needed to be. They refused. The owner offered to finish their sleeve free of charge. They refused. I offered to do a partial refund, what would be left of the amount after the hours I’d worked on them were subtracted. They refused. They demanded the full refund and threatened the police and a lawyer. I stated that I would try to refund the full amount but that I didn’t feel it was fair since I’d done work on them and that would be taking from what I’d already done.
Out of the sum of 900, I have paid back $500, which after talking with other tattoo artists, friends in law enforcement, I feel is completely fair and appropriate. I have done at least $400 worth of work on this person and I have admitted my mistakes, I have admitted I fu**ed up WHOLE HEARTEDLY. I know I didn’t do a good job of keeping track of a client and I will learn from this.
I let this person know today that I won’t be refunding the full amount, they’ve gotten refunded the balance of work that wasn’t completed on them, and if they choose to go the legal route to email me and I would no longer be responding via messenger.
Long story short, I am calling myself out and getting ahead of this now because they are not happy after receiving this news and have threatened to “blast” me all over every social media avenue and take me to court for $400.
I hope if I ever have upset anyone that you will reach out to me and let me make it right. I am only human and I am learning every second of every day how to run a business but I won’t be made a fool and made to seem like I scam people. I will not let someone take money from me and walk all over me or my business.
I hope my clients will know who I am if they see slander about me online and continue to come see me and talk crap with me and laugh with me. I love you guys.
