This season is now ended, but we are anxiously awaiting a return to singing together in the Fall. Wonder what Dr. Thom has in store for us next year?? 😉

Happy Memorial Day from the New South Festival Singers! We give thanks to God for the Liberty and Freedom that we enjoy and makes possible the flourishing of the Arts in our Country. Thank you to all our military forces for your sacrifices so we can lift our voices in song.

We hope that you will join us for our last concert of the season this Memorial Day at the Circular Church in Charleston, SC. It starts at 3:00 sharp. We are a proud featured ensemble on the Piccolo Spoleto Festival since 1989!

Here’s a peek into our Piccolo Spoleto Festival dress rehearsal happening NOW!! Come see us tomorrow (Memorial Day) for our 35th annual performance at the Circular Congregation Church, 150 Meeting Street in Charleston’s Historic District at 3:00 pm.

Make sure to shake the hand of (or High-Five!) our new, amazing music director, Dr. Thomas Dixon in his debut in Piccolo Spoleto as the leader of New South Festival Singers. Bravo, Thom!

The singers are sounding incredibly beautiful and emotionally charged in their singing… don’t miss this concert!!

Admission is FREE, but donations are gratefully accepted. Come early for best seating for this popular event. We will start seating at 2:30 pm.

It was a 'most this amazing day' yesterday for our Bon voyage to Charleston Concert. Thanks to Central Presbyterian for hosting in such a lovely setting to sing. Thanks to all our ushers and ticket takers. Thanks especially to our wonderful friends and family for you support over the year. We love you!

A special thanks also to Karen Cordell for taking the amazing concert pictures. You are a treasure!

Now, we pack our bags and head south to Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto Festival this weekend. You can follow our travels on social media or use the hashtag, , to find your favorite singers on tour to Charleston. We are super excited and hope to see some of you there!

It’s Bon Voyage Concert Day… our last appearance in Atlanta is today at 2:30, Central Presbyterian Church 201 Washington St SW.

Can you believe our last concert of the season is this Sunday, May 17?? See flyer for additional details.

We were hard at work Tuesday night studying our scores and memorizing songs for our Bon Voyage to Piccolo Spoleto Concert, titled "most this amazing day". We cannot wait to sing it for YOU!

You can purchase your tickets ahead of time at www.FestivalSingers.org/concerts or purchase tickets at the concert. The doors open for general admission seating 30 minutes before the performance.

Now if you really want to be a Festival Singers roadie and follow us to Charleston, we would love to have you at both concerts. Our annual concert in Charleston will be on Memorial Day at 3:00, Circular Church. More news about that will be coming up next week. Piccolo Spoleto Festival

We are so incredibly proud of our director, a graduate of UGA, who is now known as, DR. THOMAS DIXON!! Woo-hoo!!

Dr. Dixon, you have been our steady at the wheel all season and New South Festival Singers has grown exponentially under your excellent leadership! We hope that you have time to take off and relax a little after your monumental experience... oh, wait... we have 2 more concerts this season! There is certainly no rest as a choral artist in May.

First up, our Bon Voyage concert is coming up THIS WEEKEND, May 17th at 2:30pm, Central Presbyterian Church! www.FestivalSingers.org/concerts for additional information and tickets.

Then our 25/26 season with Music Director, Dr. Dixon, ends with a Memorial Day concert at Piccolo Spoleto Festival at the Circular Church in Charleston, SC on May 25th at 3:00pm. FREE admission, but donations gratefully accepted!

We love you Thom and couldn't be more proud!

To celebrate commencement, UGA Choirs wants to extend a heartfelt congratulations to one of our graduate students that is graduating, Dr. Thom Dixon!!❤️🎶🐾

Thom’s dissertation examines the sacred choral music of Chris DeBlasio (1959-1993), considering his professional life within New York City’s church music culture and his 1987 HIV diagnosis. Thom contextualized DeBlasio’s compositions alongside broader HIV/AIDS ministries offered at Trinity Wall Street, and provided lyrical and musical analysis for two of his unpublished anthems, as well as his work for choir and strings, The Best-Beloved.

Thom wants to extend a huge thank you to his doctoral committee, Dr. Daniel Bara, Dr. Elizabeth Knight, and Dr. Rumya Putcha for all their encouragement and guidance with this project. He is forever grateful for their mentorship and care during his time at UGA. He wants to thank them for pushing him to be his best, most authentic self in how he approaches music.

After graduation, Thom will continue his role as Director of Music and Worship at Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta as well as serve as Music Director and Conductor for both The New South Festival Singers and The Summer Singers of Atlanta.

We are so grateful for Thom’s contributions to the choral area and wish him the best in his future endeavors. Congratulations, Dr. Dixon!
