Installing new pins is a rare, special event - and one of my personal favorites.

New pins cost a ton of money, and are designed to last at least 12 years. A pin costs around $35, and 25 pins go into a machine. That's almost $900 per machine!

Installing new pins into improperly maintained machines will result in them looking old very quickly - so I never recommended buying new pins until the machines will handle them properly - and of course, our job is to maintain them properly. :)

We've taken MassGeneral Hospital for Children OLD SKOOL!

After recording over 200,000 plays in just the last few years, the Wizard of Oz (WOZ) pinball machine placed there by Project Pinball Charity needs some extra love and attention. We've been voluntarily maintaining the game regularly since it was placed on location, but it's time for us to take WOZ to the shop and do the in depth work that we just can't do on location.

With the cooperation of the staff at MGH, and Project Pinball, we have placed our Williams Firepower on location at MGH, while we give the WOZ a thorough overhaul. This will keep the kids flipping reliably in the interim, and show some of them how we played pinball back in the day!

We work on pinball machines, and "pin and ball" machines (pinsetters) too!

Candlepin Bowling is "bowling" in New England and Eastern Canada. It is the toughest variation of bowling in North America, with a world record score of 245 for a single game (out of a possible 300).

Testing: Williams "Flash" Pinball machine

One of the cool parts of fixing a pinball machine, is "testing" the pinball machine! The Pinball fanatic in me loves playing all of these different games, but I especially love playing them when everything is working right!

We spent a long, hard day volunteering at Mass General Hospital today, overhauling their Wizard Of Oz pinball machine. While we do regular maintenance on the game, and do service calls if it breaks, every year, we tear down the game and give it an overhaul, to keep it playing for years to come!

Almost 2 years ago, Project Pinball Charity installed a Jersey Jack Pinball Wizard of Oz at the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. Since it's been on location, kids and families have played almost 25,000 games on it. It is the centerpiece of the play room, and it offers everyone a chance to have some serious fun, while battling an illness or recovering from am injury.

Atlantic Pinball and Pinsetter is proud to volunteer it's services to maintain the game, and help bring a little joy to young people and their families when they're going through rough times.

Someone had asked me once, if you could make a game like Medieval Madness as an EM pinball machine (no computer, just circuits and relays). I remember saying yes, you probably could, but the game would need its own room for all of the hardware to make everything run.

This might give you an idea of how big the room might need to be... :)

It's MOVING DAY today!

Moving pinball machines isn't necessarily fun, but reliving some of the memories of certain games are great!

For instance, this 1947 Williams Cyclone, which came back to life as a father/son project with Cam Moore, and a day at Pop Bumpers Pinball when Tom Dunford's son got the high score on it!

A Bally Fireball, in for an overhaul!
