Happy Solstice! We’re still on hiatus and are privately poetry-caroling our family this year. We’ll be back in the new year with new, public activities. Until then, stay safe and have a very happy holiday season. -Rockford Fringe

We are building a respectful and inclusive culture by offering free, guided hikes to the public. Some are short, one-milers on flat surfaces in the city. Others are three or four rugged miles up and down hills through the forests of northern Illinois. We won't get lost and we will keep you safe every step of the way, regardless of your age, race, color, national origin, creed, gender and / or ability.

⏸️ PROGRESS UPDATE: Since we started our ⏸️, we have taken 2️⃣ classes through an organization called Right To Be. Their mission to is build a world where everyone has the right to be. Our mission is to include as many people on our hike-n-shares as possible.

We have enjoyed and appreciated what we have learned thus far, but we also have a long way to go.

We will be taking more classes through Right To Be and plan to attend the next local Eliminate Racism meeting.

The is excited to evolve into an organization where *everyone* feels welcome and safe to explore the woods, prairies and paths of northern Illinois. 🥾🆓🍁

UPDATE FROM THE ROCKFORD FRINGE

In light of the presidential election, Rockford Fringe is concerned for the safety and well-being of many our friends and neighbors. As such, we made the decision to pause our public hike-n-share series for the months of November and December. We feel it is prudent to create public events that are as welcoming and safe as possible.

During this time, Rockford Fringe will be researching, practicing and learning how to build -- and be -- a safer and more welcoming space for our community.

We will still host our annual Winter Solstice Poetry Caroling Festival on Saturday, December 21, 2024 and our public hike-n-shares will resume in January 2025.

Until then, we will share occasional updates and resources about our progress here and on our website. Thank you!
