Augustana College Saxophone Studio Under the instruction of Dr. Randall Hall, the group has performed at NASA regional conferences, Iowa Saxophone Day.

The Augustana College Saxophone studio is comprised of both music majors and non-music majors dedicated to creating diverse performances by interpreting a wide range of music. Saxophonists participate and perform in many ensembles at Augustana College, including the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Saxophone Quartet, and the Kali Yuga Free Improvisation Ensemble. The studio

has hosted guest artist concerts and master classes by performers including Frederick Hemke, Jean-Michel Goury, Dave Camwell, James Fusik, Jeremy Ruthrauff, Matthew Sintchak, Jack Wright, and the International Saxophone Quartet.

SMSF explores the nearly unlimited sonic potential of the saxophone through new composition, improvisation, extended performance techniques, microtonality, electronic music, multimedia, and other experimental elements.

The festival guest artist is saxophonist Jorge Hoyo (http://jorgehoyo.com/). The festival has also commissioned a new piece for saxophone and electronics by Berlin-based composer Hainbach (https://www.hainbachmusik.com/).

Bree is a winner of the 2021-22 Augustana Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, performing the Mark Watters “Rhapsody” for baritone saxophone. She will join the other winner, pianist John Flannery, in a performance with A*O this spring.

Dedicated to cultivating diverse performances by interpreting a wide range of music, Augustana saxophonists participate and perform in many ensembles at Augustana College, including the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Saxophone Quartet, and the Kali Yuga Free Improvisation Ensemble.
