In theater, a drama is a type of performance that uses conflict, tension, and emotionally resonant plotting to explore a range of human behavior. While situations may be slightly exaggerated, dramas tend to deal with serious topics and shed light on very human experiences. This genre of theater stands in contrast to comedy, which relies more on humor and entertaining the audience.

What is a Tragedy?

Tragedy is a form of drama that follows terrible events highlighting aspects of human suffering often plaguing the main character. While most tragedies end in the downfall of the main character, the goal is not for the audience to feel bad, but rather to experience a sense of catharsis as they witness the events from a place of complete safety.

Many tragedies have a lesson that the audience is supposed to have learned by the end of the play. Have you learned any lessons from tragic performances?

What is ballet? 🩰

Originating during the Italian Renaissance, ballet is a theatrical performance that features highly choreographed steps and movements. Classical ballets are usually performed with classical music accompaniment and use elaborate costumes and staging, whereas modern ballets are often performed in simple costumes and without elaborate sets or scenery.

Whatever style of ballet you prefer, the union of movement and music is always a wonder to behold.
