As a parent, there are moments in your life where the past, present, and future combine in an infinite, sacred moment. If you're fully present, and lucky, you may get a dozen before they're off on their own, and then maybe a few more as they navigate adulthood.
As she stood there, singing, as she walked across the stage and shook her teacher's hands, it was like I was watching three versions of her - the baby in my arms for the first time, the burgeoning soon-to-be middle schooler, and the young adult I've already caught glimpses of.
I don't remember much. My life is a hodge-podge of flashes and false memories, a collection of images sewn together like cutouts from a magazine.
But I will remember this. Every note, every smile, every wave in vivid detail. And I will hold it close to my heart.
