A few years ago, before there were any Aravrit shirts, I went looking for somewhere to make them. I ended up watching a documentary about the fast fashion industry instead.
It was one hour I never managed to forget.
The decision came from the gut: if these shirts were going to exist, they would be made properly. Fair Wear Foundation. Small family businesses. People I could thank by name, which is what I did. David, Svetlana and Maria.
It cost more to make them this way but it was not a difficult call.
Most of those shirts have now found their people, and I have been taking the sold out ones off the shop. It is a stranger feeling than I expected.
A word takes a long time to design.
A shirt takes even longer to make well.
And then one day there is nothing left to send.
So this is less a goodbye and more a thank you, to everyone who wore a hug out into the world.
Three are left. Black, size XS, with the word hug. عناق in Arabic, חיבוק in Hebrew, the same word at the same time. (XS runs small, so it is genuinely a small shirt.)
It is only the shirts that are ending. Everything else in the shop is still available.
The whole story of how they were made is on the journal. Let me know if you want the direct link!
