🚨‼️ANNOUNCING! 🚨‼️

November Nitrate Weekend returns with four screenings on November 20 and 21! Watch this page for the next few days as we reveal all the titles screening!

At 1 p.m. on November 21 we will screen A STAR IS BORN (1937), starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Directed by William A. Wellman, this print kicked off the first ever Nitrate Picture Show back in 2015. This 1946 re-release print was donated to the museum along with several others by Daniel Selznick, son of David O. Selznick. This early three-color Technicolor imbibition print truly utilizes the technology to capture a range of hues that reflect the glamour of Hollywood.

Tickets on sale now: https://www.eastman.org/event/film-screenings-special-events/star-born-35mm-nitrate

$25 general admission, $20 for museum members, $10 for students and children.

Spooky Season has reared its ugly head yet again... This lantern slide of Harold Lloyd and Mildred Davis from HAUNTED SPOOKS (1920) is a perfect reminder that eerie atmospheres and haunted-house scares have been part of screen entertainment for far longer than a century.

The concept of "home media" is not a recent idea! Before television, home video formats, and streaming brought movies into the home, devices like the Edison Home Kinetoscope offered an early way to watch films outside the theater. Marketed in the 1910s for schools, clubs, and well-to-do households, the hand-cranked machine projected compact 22mm films that could be rented or purchased, making it one of the earliest systems for home movie exhibition.
