I brought these gallery frames with me when we moved from Queens, and it took me two years to put them up 🙃

Once I did, the white mats felt way too stark in the living room, so I painted them!

I mixed up some acrylic paint to get this muddy green-beige color, and I’m really happy with how they turned out!

My happy place.

When we toured our house 2 years ago, the moment I stepped into the living room and looked out the picture window, I saw the lake in the distance and I knew this was home. I audibly said “uh oh, I like this place.”

This has been my favorite room to decorate, to daydream in, to host, to stare at my dog, and to enjoy countless couch dinners, quiet mornings, and cozy TV time and snuggles 🥰

I’m amazed at how good this lamp makeover turned out!!

I’ve never done a diy project like this before, so I went through a couple weeks of research and overthinking. But after I got over that hump, I just experimented and had fun.

Supplies:
- acrylic paint
- baking soda
- application tools: brush, sponge, paper towel
- rub n’ buff wax metal finish

Details on my finds:
- found the two lamp shades, brand new (& wrapped in plastic!!) at an estate sale for $24 total!
- found the lamps on FB marketplace for $40 total

Steps:
1. Clean lamp base & tape off any portions you don’t want to get paint on.
2. Mix acrylic paint to desired color & the add baking soda. There isn’t an exact amount, just until the texture is thicker but still paintable.
3. Paint the base (If I were to do this project again, I would have started with the darker color first, and built the lighter color on top)
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 in different shades & lightness of the color until you are happy with the overall look
5. Let dry! I didn’t put a top coat or anything. I assume it should be fine, unless I spill water on it, but may need to revisit this step depending on how they hold up.

Would you try this diy project??
