Three months from today we launch the second season of The Classics Company, as “The Learned Ladies” opens on Jan. 8, 2027.

The play, originally written in French, is translated by Richard Wilbur (1921-2017), a U.S. Poet Laureate who earned two Pulitzer Prizes for his writing. He transformed the verse and rhyming couplets of many Molière plays into iambic pentameter — which increased the production of Molière plays across the English-speaking world.

School was in session as the cast of “The School for Lies” gathered with scripts in hands and laughs aplenty for a table read seven months before the play opens — presenting a glimpse into the deep preparation of The Classics Company, a slower process that will help with mastering a fast-moving Molière production.

Quoting the company’s vision statement about the process, “We envision a theater that moves at the speed of understanding … the slower, richer speed of people sitting with something complex long enough to let it change them.”

Another lesson learned from that rehearsal: Audiences are surely to be entertained by Molière comedies this winter and spring! Learn more and get tickets or subscriptions at https://www.theclassicscompany.org
