Rochester Community Players The Rochester Community Players is Rochester NY's oldest theater group, celebrating our 100th Season in 2025!

RCP has staged productions continuously since 1925 and in that time has produced over 675 productions. The RCP repertory includes both contemporary and classic dramas, comedies, mysteries and musicals. In 1994, RCP created the Shakespeare program as a part of the Rochester Community Players. The program was founded by Peter Scribner, and the first production was Twelfth Night, November 19, 1994. E

ach July, the Shakespeare Program stages a free, full-length production at the Highland Park Bowl; indoor productions are staged at MuCCC. Our Irish program stages productions of both contemporary and classic Irish dramatic literature, also at MuCCC. RCP’s Next Production!
“A Good Farmer”
by Sharyn Rothstein
October 16 – 24, 2026

The final show in RCP’s 101st season is A Good Farmer by Sharyn Rothstein and directed by Maria Scipione.

A Good Farmer was inspired by a New York Times article in 2006 regarding increased immigration enforcement on small, family-run farms in Elba, New York. This practice has since escalated making Rothstein’s play yet more relevant as it examines themes of love, friendship, and humanity amidst contentious and often divisive political issues surrounding immigration.

It is a moving drama that explores the friendship between Bonnie Johnson, a cabbage farmer, and her unlikely best friend, Carla Gutierrez, an undocumented Mexican immigrant. It is also an effective story about finding the power to face what divides us.

Performances are October 16 – 24 at the Multi-use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC), 142 Atlantic Avenue in Rochester.

There are only four more performances of the 29th Shakespeare in the Park production presented by Rochester Community Players and the Monroe County Parks Department.

By setting this well-known play in the 21st century, Jonathan Lowery, the show’s director, gives audiences a new way to experience the story of feisty Katherine and cunning Petruchio. Expect to see characters attached to their cell phones and even get messages from them during the show on your phone by connecting to a special social media feed!

Our Concessions Tent is open before the show and during the intermission providing freshly made popcorn, cookies, snacks, and cold beverages.
