I am ready to transfer my drawing to the vellum!
Hoefnagel-Inspired #50 (looking nothing like the first 50 versions!). I had to let go of some things that I thought would be perfect, but I went with subjects that have a lot of meaning and that I am excited to paint.
I have always loved snapdragons. When I was little, I got to choose and plant any flower I wanted around our big tree in the boulevard - it was always snapdragons. I planted these pinkish lavender snapdragons at the beginning of this summer, knowing that I wanted to paint them.
This dragonfly spent an hour in my garden last summer, allowing me to take photos from every angle before flitting off. Dragonflies have always seemed so magical with their sparkling wings.
I have loved peacocks since I was six years old and visited King Ludwig's Linderhof Palace in Bavaria. I had never seen anything so beautiful as a peacock feather. One of my favorite gifts from my 12th birthday was a peacock feather in one of those stretched out 7-Up bottles from the 70s.
And, of course, there had to be a hazelnut. I can't decide if it will be ripe or if it will be the pinkish white color of a ripening hazelnut. I will decide when I see how all the colors are working out. I might have too much pink and green (my favorite colors) and will need the brown to counteract that.
I will now transfer it to my vellum from the 1800s and tomorrow I will start to paint.
