Rochester International Children's Film Festival

The Film Festival focuses particularly on films that center around cultural diversity, problem solving, artistic expression, and gentle social messages.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Currently an ONLINE free family film festival that features short, award-winning international shorts with gentle social messages and follow-up educational materials. The mission of the Rochester Children's Film Festival is "to provide an accessible forum for non-violent, artistic films and other media as part of literacy education for children, their families and caregivers." The film festival runs all throughout the month of April, with showings at various community centers such as childcare centers, libraries and schools. The Rochester Children's Film Festival is a collaborative effort led by the Rochester Association for the Education of Young Children, the Rochester Public Library, the Rochester City School District, Office of Early Childhood, Family Child Care Satellites of Greater Rochester and other organizations and volunteers. The festival is administered by the Rochester Association for the Education of Young Children, with the help and support of:

PLEASE SHARE! Festival extended one week through May 7th!

We have heard you! Some of you reached out to let us know you missed some of the films due to the different April school breaks across the country/around the world so... we have extended the festival one week "due to popular demand!"

We hope you will enjoy watching the films you missed, and perhaps catching some "old favorites" while you're at it! We would LOVE your feedback on any/all of the films, meanwhile (and our filmmakers love hearing your thoughts as well)!

If it's Saturday, it's time to offer you and your children SIX new films for the week ahead, as we continue our celebration of the Month of the Young Child this April!

First off, for EARTH DAY we offer a moving and lovely little short about the friendship between two trees. Also available are films from Cyprus, Argentina, France, Switzerland, Canada... about landing on the moon, swimming with crocodiles, the magic of merry-go-rounds, a caged bird flying free and a young girl inspiring change on her Little League team. And... all for free!

Our 18th ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL continues, offering you and your children five more award-winning, non-violent and often gentle-message short films from around the world to enjoy. And, all for free!

This week, we travel across the globe (Spain, China, the UK, and more) to meet children dealing their worries and their hopes about the pandemic; a young boy wondering how a new baby will change his life; two sisters bonded in a extra special way... as well as cats, moths and rabbits!

Today, our friends at The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) shine a spotlight on "ARTSY THURSDAY," so we do the same!

In this delightful short film from Spain, three paint droplets jump in and out of the paintings at the Miro Museum every night, looking for grand adventure! (And, no surprise, occasionally they run into a bit of trouble, but it's all in good fun!)

Our friends at The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) are celebrating WORK TOGETHER WEDNESDAY, so we are as well!

Our FREE, family-friendly film today features a Bear who is feeling sad as hibernation day grows closer, because she knows she will have to miss all the fun that comes with Winter!
