One of the West End's most famous venues is getting a new name.
The historic Shaftesbury Theatre will be renamed the Judi Dench Theatre in February 2027, honouring the extraordinary career and contribution of Judi Dench.
The renaming recognises Dame Judi's long-standing connection to the theatre, where she was a founding member of the Theatre of Comedy company, as well as her decades of work across stage and screen.
The venue's owners said the change will celebrate her legacy while inspiring future generations of performers and theatre lovers.
Dame Judi described the tribute as "truly overwhelming" and said the theatre has always held a special place in her heart.
The change will coincide with an ongoing refurbishment of the Grade II-listed venue, including restoration work inside the auditorium and improvements backstage.
Originally opened in 1911, the theatre has been known as the Shaftesbury Theatre since 1962 and has recently hosted productions including & Juliet, Mrs Doubtfire and Just For One Day.
