I was born and raised in downtown Rochester, NY, just a stoneâs throw from Genesee Brewery and High Falls. Although I have been traveling for the past 4 years painting signs and murals for large brands and small businesses across the US, I always find my way back to where my heart liesâmy hometown, Rochester!
Growing up in Rochester was fascinating. There was always an adventure, from the and to long hours at on First Fridays followed by a hot beverage at . I was fortunate enough to amass a few mentors in the arts, like , and , who invested a fair deal of their time into me. I knew I wanted to be able to share the fruits of their friendship and time spent by coming back to contribute to the walls, buildings and communities of Rochester.
Returning to Rochester in 2020 to paint the I Am Speaking mural on State Street in downtown Rochester was an opportunity that I only dreamt about. A little over a year later, thereâs another opportunity to immortalize three iconic figures: Constance Mitchell, the first African American woman elected to Monroe County Legislature; Rev. Franklin Florence, a pastor and civil rights activist; and renowned activist Malcolm X. The trio were photographed together when Malcolm X made a visit to Rochester in 1965.
From generous donations for these crowdfunded projects to sharing photos, the Greater ROC community shows its love in so many ways. And for that Iâm thankful.
