We are excited to announce an upcoming project! We will be partnering with Mental Health Association of Rochester/Monroe County's Creative Wellness Opportunities and our UR Medicine Mental Health & Wellness Strong Recovery services to create an auxiliary gallery at Brighton Business Center for patients, families, and the community surrounding recovery.

Thank you again to Center for Community Health & Prevention, URMC for their support in making this project possible!

Congratulations to one of the two recent Community Health Mini-Grant awardees: the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) Department of Psychiatry and its community partner, Creative Wellness Opportunities (CWO), for their proposed project

The Community Health Mini-Grant will be instrumental in supporting the Department of Psychiatry and CWO in their joint efforts to create a visual art workshop series and community art gallery at the URMC Strong Recovery clinic, located at 2613 W. Henrietta Rd. Through this grant, the waiting area will be transformed into a new art space, bringing โ€œhope and healing throughout the waiting room area and enhancing the physical environment by integrating it with artwork that is beautiful, calm, and positive.โ€

Funding will go towards the purchase and installation of frames at the clinic, which will rotate artwork annually. The grant will also fund art supplies for art workshops as well as a gallery reception aimed at introducing community members to addressing the stigma associated with substance use disorders.

CWO is a community-based organization providing workshops and mutual support groups formed and facilitated by peers in recovery for adults on their mental health journey. This grant will help bring CWO to Strong Recovery for workshops while patients are there for treatment, breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for patients to be exposed to art as therapy.

Weโ€™re looking forward to watching the gallery come to life! The mini-grant is provided in partnership with UR CTSI: University of Rochester Clinical & Translational Science Institute.

Our friends at the URMC Office of Health Equity Research is hosting an Art Contest for local students in grades K-12! The goal is to give students a forum to share what health equity means to them and why itโ€™s important.

By hosting an art contest, the Office of Health Equity Research aims to spark enthusiasm and engage in meaningful conversations with students, parents and teachers about specific areas of health inequity we can address through our research.

Submit artwork at www.bit.ly/OHERartcontest by November 25th!
