Finished Julia’s backpiece 🖤 we did the linework a year ago so all linework is healed — a few spots needed some quick touch ups but it healed great! I love adding heavy black to these ornate tattoos to create more contrast. Thank you, Julia, for your trust with this piece.

Summer is upon us here in New York so here’s some important tips to keep in mind this season! ☀️

1. WEAR SUNSCREEN!
This is probably one of the most important tips for both before and after getting tattooed.
❗️sunburnt skin cannot be tattooed (also ouch!) so make sure to protect your skin before your appointment by applying 50spf sunscreen (and reapplying every 60-90 minutes) and you can go the extra mile by limiting sun exposure with beach coverups, sarongs, t shirts, etc.

Once your tattoo is healed and no longer scabby, you can apply sunscreen when venturing outdoors. This will protect your tattoo from fading and sun damage.

2. MOISTURIZE
Every day leading up to your appointment for at least two weeks, moisturize moisturize moisturize!

3. HYDRATE
Hydration is key! When you are properly hydrated from the inside out, the more hydrated you skin will be which makes for a better tattoo process and healing process. The healthier you and your skin is, the easier it is to tattoo. Plus you’ll be flushing out toxins and boosting your immune system which is great as your immune system takes a hit when getting tattooed.

In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day.

4. LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE
This is important for both before and after your tattoo.

Sunburnt skin cannot be tattooed so please protect your skin before your appointment (especially the week leading up to it).

As discussed in the first tip, if you’ll be out in the sun for extended periods of time make sure to wear sunscreen and to reapply every 60-90 minutes. And make sure to wear or bring items of clothing/coverings to protect the area to be tattooed.

❗️Your new tattoo is an open wound. You want to protect it the best you can. So no going to the beach that day or the day after and no swimming in any body of water for 10-14 days.

The better you take care of your skin and your body beforehand and by following your artists aftercare instructions to a T, the better your tattoo will heal and stay looking amazing!

How To Book A Tattoo Appointment:

1. RESEARCH

• research the different styles of tattoos — what interests you the most?
• examples of styles include traditional, neotraditional, illustrative, Japanese, realism, ornamental, geometric, etc.

2. GET CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT

• what subject matter do you want?
• do you want color or black & grey?
• what size do you want this tattoo to be?
• where on your body do you want this tattoo?
• do you have a budget you want to work with?

3. CHOOSE YOUR DESIRED ARTIST

• choose an artist whose work best fits what you are wanting (for example, if you want a colorful neotraditional tattoo, don’t ask someone that tattoos only black and grey realism)
• do you want to work with a local artist or are you willing to travel to an artist?

4. CONTACT & INQUIRE

Once you have all of the above figured out, you’re ready to request an appointment! A few things to take note of to best prepare for communicating with your artist:

• be ready to pay a deposit!
Deposits range anywhere from $20-$300 and are nonrefundable. Just about all tattooers require a deposit to secure your appointment date, time & design — if you don’t money to pay your deposit, you’re not ready to book.
• view your artists booking info — their schedule, their rates, their policies
• make sure you contact them the way they prefer — this may mean you email them, call their studio, or fill out a form online when they’re books are open (in most cases, you do not want to DM them on social media)

Due to the holiday weekend we decided to postpone our paint workshop to June 11 to accommodate a better turn out. These workshops have been a hit so far and we love getting people together to get creative, connect, & have something to take home and hang on their walls.
