Exhibition of Found Objects

This exhibition explores the hierarchy of value in objects: presenting forgotten and everyday objects as not just valuable but invaluable. The formal presentation creates space to remove them from their context and consider what story they might have to tell, as well as exploring their often overlooked forms.

It was such a pleasure installing “The Mound” (inspired by FL’s own Shell Mound) alongside a crew of RIT students. Seeing an idea of such a massive scale realized is unmatched.

The piece will be up from now through the holiday season at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

A performance based art video.
Warning for some nudity

“The human habit of seeing patterns in meaningless is honestly kinda silly and absurd. We look at two shapes next to each other and decide “yep those are eyes” when in reality its just two pieces of rock or a constructed shelf, but that’s all we need to project an entirely new identity onto it. Add a third thing and now it’s an entire face, you can name that “Gerard” (god knows why) and he’ll be your best friend. And it’s not just the evolutionary thing of needing to recognize human faces, no we do this to ourselves. We make up entirely new abstract patterns and symbols and suddenly they’re all we see, in nature, in structures, in everything.”
