This is number 66 of my Michigan Lighthouse artwork series. The 1867 lighthouse is now owned by the Martin and Reinhart Jahn families, who have gone to great lengths in restoring the historic structure, which was in severely deteriorated condition when they took ownership. The structures on the site are a remarkably complete set, and also include the old lifesaving station, a brick outhouse, a brick oil shed, and a cement boathouse on the South side of the island. Being privately owned, Bois Blanc Lighthouse is best viewed from the water. You can see the lighthouse on eastbound lighthouse cruises offered by Shepler's. Seasonal ferry service to Bois Blanc Island is available. Photo credit I. Jeanne

This is number 61 in my Michigan lighthouse artwork series – Charity Island. Charity Island Light tower was built in 1857 at a cost of $4,819.00. The lighthouse keepers dwelling was built the following year. It is located in Saginaw Bay, on Big Charity Island, two miles southeast of Little Charity Island. The shallow, two mile stretch of water between the islands is often treacherous, with a dangerous, rocky bottom. See more on this link about where it is now: https://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=707;

This is number 51 in my Michigan lighthouse artwork series. Presque Isle New was built in 1870 and is situated on the namesake peninsula. It replaced the Old Presque Isle Light. It serves both as a coastal light and as a harbor light. This was done using Prismacolor illustrator markers. Once again, I thank my husband for his wonderful photography. This is perhaps one of my favorite lighthouses.

This is number 50 in my Michigan lighthouse artwork series. Mission Point lighthouse is situated at the end of Old Mission Point, a peninsula protruding into Grand Traverse Bay. The light was constructed in 1870 and for 67 years the light served to warn seafarers about the shoals off the point. It is known famously for standing only a few hundred yards south of the 45th parallel north, halfway between the North Pole and the Equator. From Highway 31 in Traverse City, take Highway 37 north for 18 miles to the tip of the peninsula, where you will find Mission Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse opened to the public starting in June 2008. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, May through October, and noon to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday, in November. To confirm these times, call (231) 645-0759. This was done using Micron pen and watercolor wash. Enjoy.

This is number 44 in my Michigan lighthouse artwork series. Forty Mile Point Light does not mark a substantial port but was built so ships would never be out of viewing range of a lighthouse. Located in Presque Isle County Park, six miles north of Rogers City, Michigan, on Lake Huron. The light is 40 miles sailing distance from Mackinaw Point, or just north of Rogers City. The surrounding park is an excellent place for a picnic. Photo credit: M. Fritcher. This was done using oil paints.
