Hello All!

Regional VASE Competition was this past Saturday in San Angelo at Central HS. Abi Arthur submitted two pieces of art. Abi's two art pieces were in Division 4 which is 3.5+ credits of High School Art. In Division 4 there were 55 juried entries, 49 got a 4 rating, 5 got a 3 rating and 1 was disqualified.

Scores are as follows:
15-24 points - 1 Rating
25-36 points - 2 Rating
37-50 points - 3 Rating
51-60 points - 4 Rating

Points are given for Student Interview 1-4 points in 5 categories and Artwork Evaluation 2-8 points in 5 categories.

Abi's Artworks:
Crimson Passion - Total Score: 57/60 for a 4 Rating
(Floral Image)

Guppy Love - Total Score: 60/60 for a 4 Rating
(Fish Image)

Also pictured is Abi with her art pieces and gold medals.

The Area Competition took place directly after the District Competition. Any art piece that rated a 4 in the District was moved forward to the Area Competition. Out of 49 Division 4 art pieces with a 4 rating, only 5 art pieces were chosen to advance to State.

Although Abi did not advance to the State Competition, I believe this was a good experience for her. She had to come out of their comfort zone and interview about her art and that was a third of their score. She did very well!

If you see Abi in the hallway, give her a big congrats on a job well done!

Each year, districts across the state may submit artwork created by Pre-K through 12th grade student artists in Public and Private Schools which will be selected to be on display in the YAM Spring Exhibition at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas during the month of March. It is my honor to announce that our very own Abi Arthur has had a piece selected to be on display! The piece will be on display at The Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin the entire month of March! In addition to the prestige of having her art displayed in a museum, each year, the Office of the First Lady of Texas selects a group of artworks from the Youth Art Month Spring Exhibition to be showcased in the Governor's Business Office for one year. This year, 16 pieces will be displayed in both Mrs. Abbott and Governor Abbott's offices. Let's all congratulate Abi for having an art piece chosen to hang at the Bullock and wish her luck in being chosen to hang in the Governor or Mrs. Abbott's office!

Update on TASA/TASB Convention:

I found out that Abi’s piece will be on display at the TASA/TASB Convention! This was not a competition as I first thought, it was more about advocacy and less about winning. However, her piece will be on display for the entirety of the Convention and will be seen by lots of eyes! Abi is a fantastic artist and I am honored to be able to encourage her and watch her grow!

Every year TASA / TASB (the Texas Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Boards) meet for a fall conference! TAEA presents exhibits during this conference to continue to advocate for visual arts throughout the year! RLISD has submitted our one allotted piece, created by Abigail Arthur. I will keep you posted on whether or not her piece is accepted to be on display at the conference.
