5 Points Music Sanctuary put on its first double header outdoor concert event of the year at Wasena Park last weekend. The event showcased Roanoke’s very own Dead Rekoning on Friday night. Then on Saturday, the New River Valley’s The Isaac Hadden Project, warmed up the crowd with a fresh and energized take on guitar style jamming before 5 Points alumni and guitar phenom, Eric Gales, took the stage.
Blue Ridge Rocks photographer, Meagan Iwaniszek, was on site Saturday night to capture the sights and take in the incredible live music these past winter months have been missing.
Eric Gales, along with his wife, LaDonna and fellow band mates, were warmly welcomed back to Roanoke after having to cancel their last scheduled show in October 2020 due to COVID. From the moment Gales walked onto the stage the crowd was enraptured by his stories of his soul searching journey. He shared his journey over the past year navigating sobriety, loss of a close friend and band tech, and the enormous grief he felt with the death of his father.
Once the intimate stage was set, Gales supplied the crowd with the guitar-driven music therapy their souls were aching for. With incredible mashups of rock classics and many original tunes off his latest album, The Bookends, it was an undeniable dose of needed blues rock elixir. Even through the misty and dreary weather, Gales and his band brought a rejuvenating light that brightened a spark of hope that can only be felt through an incredible live music experience.
As always, big props to the 5 Points staff and volunteers for once again putting on another safe and unique music experience for our music-loving community. They are the real MVPs!
