Hoo Hoo Whooo is getting excited for our inaugural barn burner story party on April 18th?

We have heard from many of you that you are working diligently to prepare a 5 minute COMEBACK story for the Hootenanny and we can barely wait!

For motivation, we asked ChatGPT what are some things that can be done in 5 minutes.
Here is the most boring list ever according to AI:

As a reminder, the gist is that this is the uncurated version of Hoot and Holler.
This is a “late night” story party.
This is the anything goes, no holds barred true story soirée.

This is the “OMG, I’m so happy I witnessed this live” story sharing shenanigan that will be the stuff of legend!

How will it work?

The idea is that potential storytellers will throw their names in a hat for the opportunity to share a 5 minute story based on the theme of COMEBACKS.

We will set a 5 minute timer and when the timer goes off, so will the Storyteller from the stage!

This is going to be such a fun opportunity for brand new storytellers to dip a toe into the empowering waters of live storytelling, as well as an awesome opportunity for seasoned veterans to try out new ideas.

This is going to be a storytelling LOVEFEST filled with signature Hoot and Holler good vibes and encouragement.

*This is a separate ticketed event from our main stage show and the Hootenanny will begin at (gasp!) 9:30 PM and last for one hour.

Who we are:

5 Minute Hootenanny is a brand new division of Roanoke’s beloved live storytelling soiree, Hoot and Holler: Our Stories. Out Loud.

The Hootenanny will take place “after hours” following our main stage show and is designed in the vibe of a story slam/open mic format.

The Hootenanny is a separate ticketed event and will last for one hour. We will get through as many stories as we can in that length of time.

Potential tellers will put their name in a hat for the chance to share a 5 MINUTE true story from their lives based on the night’s theme.

This will be a spontaneous, no holds barred, safe space for all voices to shine.

If your name is selected, we will set the timer and you will have EXACTLY 5 minutes at the mic. Once the timer goes off, so does the teller from the stage!

We want to create a more informal and looser format for those who have always wanted to try their hand at being up on the Hoot stage, but who may want some practice and encouragement before attempting a full length curated story.

We encourage laughter, applause, and deep listening as is trademark for our legendary Hoot and Holler audiences.

We ask that all stories be true as remembered by the teller.
Work on your story beforehand so you have your timing and rhythms down!

Who we are NOT:

A platform to disparage any group of people due to sexual orientation, skin color, religious beliefs, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc.
We have a zero tolerance policy for any form of hate speech.
(You will be removed from the theater immediately should such behaviors or language occur.)

Our very first event will be held Thursday April 18th at our beloved Grandin Theater.
The theme will be Comeback Stories!
