June is for creating and relaxing at Brambleton Recreation Center! 🎨🧘

We have a packed schedule of new programs kicking off next week! From 8-week creative series to one-day workshops, there is something for everyone to learn and enjoy:

🏺 Ceramics (Starts June 9): Explore the behavior of glazes and create your own decor or dishes in this 8-week series with Ozzy Freidline.
🎨 Mixed Media Club (Starts June 9): Stretch your skills on and off the canvas with guidance from Lillian Brue.
🖼️ Art Through the Ages: Pop Art! (June 12): Get the skinny on the 1950s/60s Pop Art movement! Light snacks are included.
✨ Sound Meditation (June 12): Enjoy deep relaxation with singing bowls and gongs. Mats are provided, just bring a blanket/pillow!
🧵 Flat Loom Weaving (June 13): Craft your own custom wall hanging in this beginner-friendly workshop. All supplies included!

We are so excited to announce our NEW Adaptive Sports Camp! In partnership with Maples Kids and Wheel Love, we are bringing an inclusive, supportive, and high-energy sports experience to our community.

Whether you’re a seasoned player or looking to try something brand new, there is a spot on the court for you. We provide the adaptive sports wheelchairs... all you need to bring is your team spirit!

Next week's schedule is packed with opportunities to stretch your body and your artistic skills. Whether you're looking for an accessible fitness class or a new 8-week hobby, we have a spot waiting for you:

🪑 Chair-Assisted Yoga (Starts June 1): Build balance and coordination with less stress. This class mixes seated and standing poses to adapt to your specific needs.
🧶 Intermediate Crochet (Starts June 3): Take your skills to the next level! Over 8 weeks, you'll learn to craft detailed amigurumi figures and beautiful floral bouquets.

Let us do the driving this June! 🚌☀️ Grab a friend for two incredible summer day trips that depart from Brambleton Recreation Center. Transportation and your tour host are totally covered—all you have to do is show up and enjoy the ride.

📅 Sat, June 20: Booker T. Washington Juneteenth Celebration
Head to Hardy, VA to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the emancipation of Booker T. Washington! Enjoy live music, living history demonstrations, and guided tours of the Burroughs plantation. (Pickups at Brambleton Recreation Center & Clearbrook Walmart).

📅 Sat, June 27: Berkeley Springs, WV & Buc-ee's!
Relax in the steady 74-degree natural warm springs right in the middle of town! You can wade in the public mineral water, book a private mineral bath, visit the museum, and—of course—we're making a stop at Buc-ee's along the way! 🦫 (Pickups at Brambleton Recreation Center & Bonsack Walmart).

Your Summer Masterpiece Starts This June! 🎨🧶🧘‍♂️

Ready to commit to a new hobby? We are kicking off a full slate of 8-week series and summer clubs at Brambleton Recreation Center! Whether you want to strengthen your body or unleash your creativity, we have a spot for you:

Next Saturday, May 16th is shaping up to be a pretty busy day! If you’re looking for something to do with the kids—or just want to try something new yourself—we’ve got a lot of cool programming happening through the Brambleton Recreation Center.

From a road trip down to Damascus for the AT Days Festival to getting a little messy with tie-dye at Walrond Park, there’s really something for everyone.

Here is the lineup for Saturday, May 16:
🚌 Appalachian Trail Days: A full-day trip to "Trail Town, USA" (Damascus).
👕 Tie-Dye at Walrond Park: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Great for the kids!).
🧁 Cupcake Decorating: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Learn some actual pro techniques).
🔔 DIY Windchimes: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (Make something musical for your garden).

Some of these have registration deadlines coming up in just a few days (like the Tie-Dye class on the 14th!), so make sure to grab your spot soon.

May is just around the corner, and we’re filling the calendar at Brambleton Recreation Center with everything from wellness workshops to youth DIY. Whether you're looking to get active or learn something new, we’ve got a spot for you:

🌱 Mini Greenhouse Makers (May 9): A hands-on Saturday for the kids! They’ll construct their own mini greenhouse, plant seeds, and learn the science of growth to take home.
🍲 Lunch & Learn (May 6): Join Aimee Valenzuela, MPH, NTP, for a discussion on anti-inflammatory foods for joint health. We’re serving up a fresh chickpea and spinach stew—and you’ll get the recipe to take home!
🚲 Cycle 101 (Starts May 4): Want to try a cycle class but feel a little intimidated? Holly Sweet is leading this beginner-friendly, "set your own pace" session in a totally relaxed environment.
