Today I am feeling grateful for all the incredibly positive changes I’ve experienced in the last two years. Two years ago I was stuck in a relationship in which I did not belong. I had stalled in my career. I was generally miserable and lost. But in only two years everything changed. I found a new career path that was invigorating and fulfilling. I found a new perspective on my faith that gave me great peace. I reignited my passion for art. And most importantly, I met my person. Now I am moving forward with my beautiful children and my beautiful wife and for the first time in many years I feel hopeful. My gratitude cannot be overstated.
If you are in a relationship or a life that feels like a prison, I hope that you’ll have the courage to make necessary changes. For me, at least, it has meant everything.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The King. No one has captured my imagination or inspired me more than Stephen King. He has brought me thousands of hours of entertainment and I am eternally in his debt. The Stand, The Regulators, IT, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Misery, Salem’s Lot, Cujo, Carrie, The Outsider... It almost seems impossible that one human could come up with so many awesome stories. Thank you, Stephen!

Well that’s it! Halloween is here and inktober is over. For this year, anyway. Thanks for joining me and for all the support and love. If you’re a horror fan, I hope this series has rejuvenated your passion and respect for horror. If you aren’t a horror fan, I hope you’ve learned something and gained new appreciation for a genre that isn’t ever going away.

Have a great Halloween, everybody!

There are only a handful of times in my life when a movie has made me feel like I was genuinely in danger. Watching the “experimental film” in the ring and seeing Samara climb out of the well and start walking toward me was one of those times. I had never seen anything like it and it scared the sh # # out of me. It’s an Americanized version of the Japanese film Ringu which is also terrifying. I recommend both.

In the mid 90s there was a show on TNT called MonsterVision which was hosted by a character named Joe Bob Briggs played by actor/writer John Bloom. Joe Bob would present horror b-movies (ranging from bad but funny to genuinely great) interspersed with his hilarious, clever, and occasionally politically-incorrect commentary. His show was cancelled in 2000, but Shudder revived it in 2018 with the new title “Joe Bob’s Last Drive-In.”
Before Joe Bob, I had never heard anyone discuss those silly old exploitation films with genuine affection and respect. You can tell how much he sincerely loves them by how thoughtful and well-researched his commentary is. He introduced me to a whole world of independent horror and his show feels like a hug. To me, he’s an icon of horror.

In Bram Stoker’s original novel, Count Dracula’s appearance is described this way: “a tall old man, clean shaven, save for a long white mustache and clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of color about him anywhere.”
In the dozens of Dracula films out there, none of them have depicted him with a mustache, besides the 1970 film “Count Dracula” directed by Jesús Franco and starring Christopher Lee as Count Dracula. So, this is my take on the character, in honor of Bram’s original vision.

The Three Witches. The Fates. The Weird Sisters. The Moirai. They are ancient in origin. And though not always depicted as ugly old witches, in recent decades they have been given that description. You can find examples of them in Homer’s Odyssey, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Scooby Doo’s Hex Girls, Charmed, Disney’s Hercules, and as recently as Hocus Pocus 2. Witches are traditionally grouped into 3. Truly some of the oldest icons of horror.
