You’re invited to join us as we celebrate five new exhibitions at our Fall Reception TODAY from 6-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. RSVPs encouraged.

Exhibitions on view: Dispatches: The Photography of Douglas McCulloh, 1990–2025, the first-ever retrospective of McCulloh’s nearly four-decade career, A Solid Sense of Who You Are: Selections from the Museum Collection, pulled from McCulloh’s own essays, interests, and friendships, The Great Picture: Revisiting the Legacy Project, the project that set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest print photograph, Won Ju Lim: The Vast Structure of Recollection, installations that turn the experience of memory into something you can physically walk through, and Heather Cleary: Thresholds, one striking photograph brought to life with miniature clay figures.

You’re invited to join us as we celebrate five new exhibitions at our Fall Reception on Saturday, October 10, 6-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. RSVPs encouraged.

Won Jum Lim: The Vast Structure of Recollection is among the exhibitions being celebrated. Memory is rarely a precise record of the past; rather, it is a creative act of reconstruction. This understanding of memory’s fluid nature is a hallmark of Marcel Proust’s writing, the source of the exhibition’s title and frequent inspiration for artist Won Ju Lim.

What happens when you embrace the unexpected?

Inspired by Dispatches: The Photography of Douglas McCulloh, 1990–2025, join us for Chance Encounters: College Night—an evening of art, music, making, and creative experimentation for all college students (UCR and other colleges!).

Explore the galleries, groove to music by DJ Devyn Dezray, grab some matcha and snacks in the college lounge (with college ID), and get hands-on with creative activities including surrealist zine-making, button making, bedazzling everyday objects, and a whimsy maxxing station for maximum chaotic joy

Come curious. Make something weird. See where chance takes you.

Dispatches: The Photography of Douglas McCulloh, 1990–2025 — the first-ever retrospective of McCulloh’s nearly four-decade career, tracing his restless curiosity across decades of singular, boundary-pushing work.

A Solid Sense of Who You Are: Celebrating the Legacy of Douglas McCulloh — pulled from McCulloh’s own essays, interests, and friendships, with works by Lewis deSoto, Sant Khalsa, Thomas McGovern, Ann Summa, and more.

The Great Picture: Revisiting the Legacy Project — 20 years after six artist—Jerry Burchfield, Mark Chamberlain, Jacques Garnier, Rob Johnson, Douglas McCulloh, and Clayton Spada—turned a derelict jet hangar into the world’s largest camera, this show revisits the legendary photo with a brand-new interactive, walk-through digital re-creation.

Won Ju Lim: The Vast Structure of Recollection — sprawling, Proust-inspired installations that turn the experience of memory into something you can physically walk through, filling the Coil Atrium.

Heather Cleary: Thresholds — one striking, strange new photograph, dreamed up during a sleepless night of nature documentaries and brought to life with miniature clay figures.

🎶🎨 Join us on October 4 for a free, family-friendly First Sunday morning with UCR Gluck Fellow Lucila Tosolino!

As part of the international "Fall of Freedom" movement, this interactive workshop explores how art and music become powerful tools for self-expression and positive change.

We'll kick things off with a live traverse flute performance of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," followed by hands-on family projects — craft your own simple instruments from everyday materials, and design colorful banners and signs with messages of hope and positivity. ✨

Whether you're into music, painting, or crafting, come make some noise, create something beautiful, and let your voice be heard! 🎵
