I was asked an odd question today by someone interested in buying a table.
What makes Hammered different? Outside of the product offerings, the materials, the obvious function and form, what is different about your company? It took me a moment to think, and I realized most folks don't even know.
I, as the CEO and founder, make less than anyone else working on our tables. I only wanted to ensure folks make a good wage doing what they love to do, build Epic game tables. I don't want to go into mass production, the idea was never to build thousands of tables. I am blown away that we have built hundreds! However, building for decades does tend to make that difference. No matter how many investors came to me wanting to do build more, build faster, increase profits, we turned them away. Its been just enough to keep the crew busy, keep the website up, and keep my mind focused on art and creation. It's been one of the most freeing things I have done in my life. It's worked for almost 2 decades now, making us one of the oldest game table companies in an industry where so many come and go based on the newest and most profitable Kickstarter. To think I used to worry about companies that aren't even here anymore, I haven't worried for a long time.
Each client has become a friend, part of an ever increasing gamer family. By doing this I get to enrich my life every time I pick up the phone, yes, it will always be me when you call. Every time Its either an old friend or a new one. I guess that's the biggest difference, making friends and playing RPG's was what it was all about all along, and its what the table represents, spending time with those incredible friends. In the end I want to give a shout out to all those who have called before, and those who have yet to call, thank you for making the lives of my crew, and myself, so enjoyable. Here is just one such great friend who always puts a smile on my face, and always has a full table! GAME ON!
