Based in Ripon, Wisconsin, Rathkamp Drums are built by Todd Rathkamp who hand crafts snare drums from a variety of domestic and exotic hardwoods. This variety of materials gives you a large palette from which to choose. Attention to detail is paramount. Details can include inlays or engraving, adding even more personality to an already unique drum.

What would happen if you could apply cutting edge manufacturing technology to create a solid shell that is perfectly round, and perfectly flat? A shell whose tone was so pure and true, that when fitted with the V4DE quick change lugs was a dream to tune and felt so good to play?

Quick question, honest and frank answers please.

As a buyer of a quality snare drum, do you feel better/ more comfortable buying a drum made by a drum "company" or by a master drum builder?

Good and bad experiences either way?

Jim Kooser of Rio Neon checked in with me today with a picture of some Bubinga hoops that he added to his Rathkamp Drum. I'd say it looks mighty tasty. Jim had this to say about his drum:

"It's great Todd. I've played every gig with it since it arrived, really love it. Sound guys I've worked with dig the sound too. Great drum, very sensitive with great tone. I've gone from high to low tunings and back, it's very flexible."

Thanks for the update Jim. It makes me very happy to know how much you love your drum!
