Many have noticed that the water in the Covered Bridge lake is almost gone. We have been monitoring this situation since early fall. At first, we thought that the drought situation was contributing to the lower levels. In February, with the low water table and the extreme freeze, unfortunately most of the fish perished. West Virginia Conservation came in early spring to assess the situation, and it has been determined that the metal pipe installed to assist with emergency drainage when the lake was created over 50 years ago has deteriorated and causing the lake to drain. Our goal – we will remove the pipe and make the appropriate repairs to alleviate the water from draining. Once the water level returns to normal, we can address replenishing the aquatic life.
