The Forgotten Sanctuary
A world is unraveling.
Towering tornadoes churn across flooded land while ancient trees bleed crimson sap, as if creation itself mourns. In the distance stands a modern church—its doors closed when refuge was needed most.
Hidden beyond the storm is an old stone sanctuary, narrow, weathered, and nearly forgotten. Though abandoned by the world, it has never stopped welcoming those with nowhere else to go. Within its worn walls, monks quietly remove the stained glass to protect those sheltering inside, while a humble priest tends not to ceremony, but to the hungry, the homeless, and the forgotten.
At the heart of the sanctuary, a Native elder reads from an ancient book written in a language older than memory. Though its words cannot be understood by the eyes, its wisdom speaks directly to the soul. Around her, fear gives way to peace as the warmth of burning coals pushes back the darkness beyond the walls.
This painting is a reflection on hope found in unexpected places. It reminds us that true sanctuaries are not always grand or celebrated. Sometimes they are hidden, imperfect, and overlooked—kept alive by ordinary people whose quiet compassion outshines the chaos surrounding them.
Even when the world feels as though it is falling apart, there are still lights that refuse to go out.
