Yesterday was quite brisk and windy, but what a great turnout we had!

We had 22 amazing artists come from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and all points of West Virginia who all braved the chilly weather and created such wondrously, beautiful work! (Thankfully the rain forecast went away and the sun ended up staying out all day for that gorgeous fall light!)

Our major prizes went to:

Tonya Ramsey (Athens, Ohio) - First Place “Sunlight on the River”

Carma Lawrenson (Richwood, WV) - Second Place “South Side”

Holly Hinkle (Canaan Valley) - Third Place “Revival”

As purchase prizes, these three works will be displayed throughout town as pride of place items, and will eventually be auctioned off to help raise funds for a succeeding plein air event.

Other prizes given out were:

Emily Garrett (Gassaway, WV) - High School “Big Rock”

Kylie Proudfoot-Payne (Belington, WV) - Quick Draw “Main Street Richwood)

And special mentions were made for:

Sharon Webb (Mt. Nebo, WV) - “Times Past”

Matt Gentry (Blacksburg, WV) - “For Peat’s Sake”

Our utmost thanks to Ron Donoughe for coming from Pittsburgh, PA to be our juror, and donating his book, “Neighborhoods” and a painting of Richwood’s beloved Sculpture Garden as part of the evening’s silent auction.

Jerril Vance (Appalachian Heritage Workshop) donated a spalted wood frame and two charcuterie boards to add to the silent auction, as well.

Outside of the three main prizes, 16 other pieces were bought by art lovers by the end of the silent auction.

Congratulations to all, and big props to everyone who participated in Richwood’s first-ever plein air event and silent auction. Thank you for spending your day and evening with us and we hope to see you all again soon!

(More pictures and videos to follow. Keep posted!)

This event was made possible by the RIPPLE Project by the Tamarack Foundation for the Arts and the Benedum Foundation. Our appreciation to the city of Richwood, the Richwood Area Chamber of Commerce, the Richwood Community Center and the Summersville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for supporting the arts!

Dawn O’Dell, Bernie Wilke, Terri Dennison Rodebaugh, Fierce Sonia, Joanna Greer, Stacy Thomas, Jane Bard, Heather Shifflett, David Ward, Robin Pitts… Thank you for being a wonderful and amazing team.
