Great news for Central Virginia - a LEGO Store is coming to Short Pump. I know a lot of you met me in this area or saw my work here. So many of my quick-turnaround projects require a 2-3 hour drive, depending on whether I can find bulk parts in Raleigh, Northern Virginia, or Virginia Beach.

I haven't posted here in a very long time- we've been busy but I slowed down on social media a bit. One significant change is that I'm now creating enough sculptures too that I felt "Brickworkz Lego mosaics" needed to change to "Brickworkz LEGO Art" to cover both the mosaics and sculpture work that I do.

Many projects I've done have been requested to be private but if you'd like to hear more from me, post below so I know it's worth the effort! I'm not sure if I'm in your algorithm anymore! Love to you all --Brian

As its massive manufacturing facility in Chesterfield takes shape, Lego is continuing to build upon its local presence with plans for its first retail store in the region.

Thank you for supporting my art these 18 years! Now that my holiday rush is done for the year, I wanted to share a delightful treat from last Christmas with you. One of my lovely customers, Allison Papalardo, shared footage with me of her husband Sal opening his surprise: a commissioned LEGO mosaic portrait of their family dog, Bella. The Bella portrait contains more than 9,000 LEGO elements. We used several translucent colors in our palette to resemble Bella as closely as possible. It was requested that I try to highlight Bella’s remarkable blue eyes. Layering a translucent light blue over a gray tone gave me the depth and shade I was looking for- something that would catch the light and glow a bit, without being “fake” or “kidsy” and stealing focus from the subject. I hope you enjoy watching their reactions as much as I did! Thank you so much to the Papalardos and to all my customers who have kept this dream alive for me. As Brickworkz enters our 19th year, I want to especially offer my thanks to you for your encouragement and support, and to my lead builder Shane Halloran, who is just remarkable. Twitch wanted a fun group project to tie into their “camp” program which was outdoors & gaming themed. When their offices around the world began to re-open, Twitch worked with us to create these group projects around the world. Here’s a completed photo of the San Francisco office’s mosaic that combines those themes with the Twitch logo and lettering. This piece is 90 x 45” covering 41,472 LEGO studs. 17 LEGO colors were used. How many different video games do you see represented here?

Thanks to the Rose Group, our 45,000-piece “Five Dragon Wall” LEGO mosaic (created in 2015 for Virginia Museum of Fine Arts ) is now on permanent loan to University of Richmond and has a new home there at University of Richmond’s International Center. Tonight, in the year of the dragon, 🐉 they inaugurated this year’s Chinafest and hosted a reception to celebrate the art (and yours truly) as well as to host a guest lecturer and author’s book signing. This will begin a series of events in Richmond. It was a lovely evening— really brought back great memories from what seems like a lifetime ago!

Happy Birthday! Your support and encouragement has been so appreciated these 18 years of Brickworkz! I received a Christmas card this winter from one of my early customers, whose child was the subject of a baby portrait we created. That baby is now in college!
