Margery Albertini Artist Statement

My work investigates femininity, and visibility through assemblages using feminine coded material/objects: doilies, veils, ribbons, and pearls. These ornamental objects become tools for examining gender identity and performance. I construct fragile yet imposing tableaus where intimacy and distance coexist. Each work an invitation to reconsider the objects/materials as elements in feminist narratives transformed into expressions of strength, resistance, and reclamation, softness and strength, beauty and burden, visibility and erasure.

Had a fabulous day with a fun group of people on the Artspace-sponsored limo-tour of ceramic studios. We visited 10 studios and our tour group bought 71 pieces! We went home happily toting many bags! Be sure to see some pottery this weekend! The studios are open again tomorrow, Sunday, June 7. Details at RVAClay.org.

We had a great time on our Artspace-sponsored limo tour of ceramic studios! Thanks to all the participants who came with us today, supporting local artists. We visited 10 studios. Collectively, we bought 71 pieces! The RVA Clay open studio tour continues tomorrow, June 7. Be sure to visit some! Details at rvaclay.org.
