Our Mission

The Contra Costa Chorale is a non-profit organization open to singers of various ages, backgrounds, and musical experience. It promotes the timeless tradition of choral singing as a community builder, providing open access to a diversity of singers and audiences alike. We focus on vocal and choral techniques, help members develop their musical skills, and strive to build a sense of community within its membership and with its audiences. The Chorale’s repertoire includes sacred and secular music from the Renaissance through the 21st century encompassing a wide variety of styles both popular and traditional, with a strong emphasis on the performance of classical choral literature. We seek to bring this music to wide and diverse audiences in our original home community of Richmond and the other communities of West and Central Contra Costa County. Our Vision

The Contra Costa Chorale will achieve the highest level of excellence in choral performance equal to or better than any non-auditioned community chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area.

RIP Dolly Parton. The Contra Costa Chorale connection: We had a blast performing a choral arrangement of "Nine to Five" in spring 2019 with a rousing solo by soprano Monica and (if memory serves) a bit of audience sing along. This closed our "Out of the Shadows" concert featuring music by an amazing variety of women composers, from Hildegard to Szymko. Here is little excerpt from our program notes: "Despite fame and fortune, Parton has never wavered from her mission to give back and bring honor to her family. The proud performer is hopeful she’s paved the way for other women who can learn from her example. “Just believe in yourself and know who you are,” she added. “Stand your own ground and don’t take no for an answer. Just respect yourself; respect each other as women. Respect the good men and appreciate them. Do what you need to do about the rest. ”
We all need a little Dolly now and again. She will be missed.
