Consoling Mechanism Audition Notice 🔥

Firehouse Theatre (Richmond, VA) is announcing auditions for a staged workshop of the new musical The Consoling Mechanism (working title), written and composed by Josh Franklin-Wolfe, directed by Executive Director Nathaniel Shaw.
Firehouse is producing this workshop in collaboration with Next Stop Theatre (Herndon, VA). Firehouse and Next Stop anticipate co-producing the premiere productions in their 2028-29 seasons. 🤩
Synopsis:
Can our deepening commitment to technology also strengthen the bonds of human connection? In a world increasingly intertwined with artificial intelligence and virtual reality, The Consoling Mechanism’s dynamic pop score, and poignant-yet-humorous book pulls back the curtain on a family struggling to recover from unexpected loss.
For the workshop, Firehouse and Next Stop will prioritize artists who reside in or can provide their own housing in Richmond, Virginia. Auditions will be held at a later date for the premiere productions.
Auditions:
Seeking virtual submissions of 32-64 bars of pop or pop musical theatre no later than Friday, September 25th at 5pm.

Callbacks will be held at Firehouse Theatre Monday, October 12th, 2026, 5-10pm, 1609 W. Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220. If you are called back, materials from the show will be provided by Friday, October 2nd.
Workshop Dates:
Rehearsals begin on/around Monday, January 4th, 2027
*Rehearsals will be on weekday evenings and weekends
Presentations and talkbacks will be 7:30pm Friday, January 15th and 2pm Saturday, January 16th.
Given the demands of the score, some music rehearsals may be held in December, 2026.
