Jim Smither Fine Art Original Fine Art Paintings and Custom Archival Art Prints Jim completes paintings by commission and displays his work at the Crossroads Art Center. Mr.

His focus is on capturing the spatial and atmospheric qualities of places and exploring the interplay of built and natural forms. Often the figure is studied in how they interact with places and others. Smither is currently teaching art and design courses at the Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond. Jim is also practicing licensed Landscape Architect, Urban Planner, and

Urban Designer. Jim grew up in Richmond and began his painting career in 1993 after completing his studies at the University of Virginia, School of Architecture. Since that time he has traveled extensively around the world including Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and North America painting and designing places. Jim returned to Virginia in 2007 and set up his studio in Richmond. The Crossroads art Center is located at 2010 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA 23230. Gallery openings and artist receptions are held on the 3rd Friday of the Months of January, March, May, July, September and November. Crossroadsartcenter.com

This is a painting of the center of Innsbruck, Austria. On site I was amazed how the Alps loom over the town. This scene is really emblematic of typical public urban space in Europe, where people intermingle as pedestrians enjoying looking at each other and the goods in stores.

This is a scene looking beneath the Spaghetti Works in downtown Richmond, VA on a crisp sunny day. I was fascinated with the cast shadow the roadway above creates. Going to Crossroads Art Center this coming Sunday.

New painting going to Crossroads Art Center this Friday.

This is a scene of the city of Budapest. The focal point is the Chain Bridge crossing the river Danube. The perspective is from the southern side of the river called Buda. Buda is hilly and primarily residential. The north side of the river is called Pest. This area is flat and is the commercial hub of the city. The bridge built in the 19th century unified the two sides.
