OMG. Out of the archives of my forgotten past. You have to watch this. Soooo, around 1984, I was operating Soundworks doing live sound but primarily engineering at Flood Zone Studios. (This was prior to the opening of The Flood Zone live performance space.). My partner Mason Wyatt decided to do a little side hustle and make a million bucks with his “Pitch Perfect” speaker stands. This is an ad he did to hawk the product on late night TV. Oh boy! Quick shot of me at the Soundcraft console and some Soundworks letterhead documentation attesting to the frequency response change (improvement?). Again I say…oh boy. Enjoy.

Grant Howard, preserving the legacy that is Soundworks. My first toolkit. Circa 1977. Even though it hasn’t been used for decades it has somehow followed us through half a dozen relocations without being tossed into the trash bin. It came to surface during our last move in February. Grant found legs, ordered a piece of glass cut to size and my old tool box now lives on as a side table in his office. I’ve got a warm fuzzy…

Soundworks fielded an impressive Martin rig in the 9500 seat Chartway Arena for a well received performance by Josh Groban and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Deployed for the concert were 32 WPC mains and 24 WPS outfills. Low frequency extension was provided by 16 SXC118 cardioid subwoofers. The system was configured in single box resolution and driven by 120 channels of Ikon ik42 amplification. As we have come to expect from Wavefront Precision - coverage was very consistent and hifi throughout the venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Lot’s of smiling faces at the end of the night.

And the 2026 Richmond Jazz and Music Festival is a wrap. 2 stages. 2 days. 22 acts. Including Erykah Badu, Leon Thomas, LLOYD, Lupe Fiasco, Doug E. Fresh and Alex Isley. It takes a tremendous amount of planning and advance work to make a show like this look easy (secret: it isn't.). Great job team!
