My Story

Allow fate its role. Too rigid a plan may prevent the natural unfolding of who you are meant to be.

My creativity has enjoyed a meandering course: dusty portraits, yellowed journals and long-silent musical instruments call our attic home. The muse challenges me to try new media- in the garden a life size figurative statue stands in mute testimony.

Two years ago my wife’s request for a sea turtle drawing introduced me to colored pencils. After the turtle came a peony for my daughter, a June bug, a blue crab and now I find myself in the middle of something larger. I am inspired to complete a collection that reflects something familiar and unspoiled about the world I grew up in.

My studio is anchored by a heavy Maple carving table my father built and used for many years. I work there beneath a vintage desk lamp that illuminated sheet music at my mother’s piano throughout my childhood. While putting the final touches on a drawing late the other night it occurred to me- I am getting closer to who I am meant to be.
